So, I bought a new hard drive and replaced the old one and bought a Windows XP home edition CD (not an upgrade) on ebay without a product key, with the understanding that the product key on my computer would work. Everything loaded fine, but now it's asking for my Product Key. The Product ID I have is like this: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx, or 5digits-OEM-7digits-5digits. No, it probably wouldn't work. Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and vice versa.
